Arkansas: Brain Injury Types

Brain swelling, often called cerebral edema, occurs when there is an increase in the amount of fluid to the brain. This occurs most commonly after a brain injury when the brain’s size can increase. Because the brain is growing within the confines of the skull, intracranial pressure (ICP) occurs.
